There is something about passing the longest day.

You feel the light starting to return. I know, it’s painstaking at first. One minute a day to start with.

Then it gains momentum and the year is off and running.

That’s the beauty of the period between Christmas and new year. The world slows for a brief moment before accelerating again.

Oh that's a really lovely noticing. And I hadn't even been paying attention to the Solstice calendar. We're almost there!

Already pre-ordered, but if I hadn't, this endorsement by Kate Schatz (who lives in MY TOWN!!!) might have done the trick: "I rarely read or recommend books by straight white dudes, but this one is a truly exceptional exception."

This is the best essay I've read thus far, charting the rollercoaster of emotions surrounding the ending days of 2023, and the uncertainty of 2024.

Have a wonderful holiday season, and congratulations on the book.

Excellent post, and so exciting for you and your family to actually hold your book! (but ugh, why the typos?). I’m looking forward to getting the copy I’ve ordered when it’s released 🤗

Oh the typos are part of the process at this stage of the game-- part of the point of pressing it in its final-looking form is to better find them! Now, there is a clear culprit as to the volume of them still in the manuscript (me) but nobody else is upset about them.

Your writing, and all its empathy and wisdom and humor and encouragement, has been a highlight of my year. Thanks for helping keep me grounded and a little less pessimistic than I might otherwise be. So excited about your book and I just love your kids’ reaction to it. What a gift! I’m looking forward to having it in my hands in 2024. Thanks for all you do. 🙏🏼❤️
