73 year old ex Pittsburgher here. The Primanti’s sandwich!!! The most disgusting thing. I don’t get it.

In the early ‘70’s I was back for a visit. At that time Primanti’s was a small diner in the strip district. We were all grad school age and stopped there at 1 am after drinking. The origin of the sandwich was that truck drivers could get a whole meal between those two slices of thick white bread and hold it while driving.

Went back in June for my 55th high school reunion. There are large Primanti’s restaurants in various areas of the ‘Burgh. A outlet at PNC park. Some in Florida and Arizona, too. Never ate one again after my first bite in 1973.

"Tried it once, in its purest form (in the Strip District, in the '70s), was disgusting, haven't repeated" is a perfectly formed food review.

Seconded! College in Pittsburgh, tried once, thoroughly unimpressed. Get your late night drunk food at the O or the EatnPark midnight breakfast buffet.

When we took our daughter to visit Pittsburgh she thot EatnPark was “Eaton Park”. I am old enough to remember when “car hops” brought the food out to the parking lot after clamping the metal tray to the driver’s side window.

I really wanted to go to Eat n park, even though, as my son noted, it should be the other way around?

I agree with your son and always have. Park and Eat makes more sense. I think it goes back to when it began in late 40’s or ‘50’s when many ate it in their cars just like in American Graffiti.

Also from Pittsburgh, and while I do personally like the sandwich, I am convinced they are only any good at the original Primanti's in the Strip. It is an aggressive and heavy sandwich, so it's not for everyone!

I have decided that I need to try the Strip location before making a final decision

Use your time to go to museums instead. Or Phipps Conservatory. Or the first floor of the Cathedral of Learning (looks like Hogwarts) or Kennywood.

These mini sessions sound like a good idea! I looked to see if I could join one, but almost all of the times conflict with my work schedule, and the one session that didn't conflicted with another existing commitment. Maybe in a future round!

Shoot! Sorry about the scheduling. There's a chance we may still add one more depending on demand.

No need to be sorry! It says more about my schedule than about yours. I can only really take every other Friday off work at the moment... October 4th is off for me, but it's unworkable for other reasons.
