I really needed this essay today. When all week I’ve been so overwhelmed with the thoughts of “WHY are we like this and how can we NOT be?” you brought me back to the basics of history, space for grace and more patience to walk alongside my efforts. Thank you!!
Tangentially I'd like to give a shout-out to that Barnraisers tote bag mentioned way up above. Mine has started a fair number of conversations. Last week the checker at the grocery store pulled out her camera to snap a pic so she'd remember to look it up later on. Cheers. And happy Friday, Garrett.
This is such a fantastic articulation of so many things I care about and continue to track inside of myself. I am so grateful to be part of communities that love you however you show up, that don't ask you to prove your worth, or genius, or exceptionalism. That are, in fact, suspect of such big displays. They keep helping me unlearn what I got pickled in at an Ivy League school.

Thanks Faith! I know that particular feeling of overwhelm so well too.

You and that grocery checker are heroes!

Those spaces are such gifts, aren't they? (though that often doesn't stop me from taking them for granted).
