Thank you for sharing this. I hadn’t seen it before, and wasn’t aware of Substack’s practices supporting Nazis. Reading this on the train en route to an action to support Palestinian liberation for the last night of Chanukah made me feel part of a larger community. Keep it up!
Absolutely everything you said in this is spot on. Their platforming of Nazis and white supremacists, among other forms of bigotry and hate speech, is precisely why I took World-Weary off of Substack.
Ghost costs me money to upkeep, and it takes a lot more work to maintain. But I could not in good conscience run a newsletter and podcast about human rights on Substack while they continue to tow this nonsensical party line.
If they changed this policy and got rid of the Nazis and the bigoted conspiracy theory crud, I would happily return. Until then, I'm happy spending money on my own site and giving not one single cent to Substack.
Oh so glad I shared then. That was the other voice in my head, "Garrett, you probably have some readers who would like to know about this but haven't seen it yet."
revoke revenue for any newsletter including certain language, you can say what you want but you can't get paid for it. (how exactly? good question)
Share subscriber lists on pages deemed white supremacist with the FBI, and the ACLU, and notify any subscriber that as a subscriber to a white supremacist newsletter, their contact information will be shared accordingly
Automatically subscribe those receiving a white supremacist newsletter to some clever alternative POV that will seduce them into examining their views?
Isn't this an entree into identifying that population that should be exploited somehow? Cult members prefer their cultish view and they are thoroughly insulated from any alternative. Depriving them of revenue and shining bright light upon them is an opportunity provided here, is it not?
And contribute that lost revenue to some cause, like helping immigrants or something anathema to that population, lol. Maybe housing for trans youth, lol. Daycare for poor people. So many things.
Hey, it looks like the link below that I said goes to the signatory page just goes to the draft letter. Here's a link to the version with the live updated list of signatories. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1-IFF6pyxKkgG3CWuyNmZVE8L1EL6Khxo3QPAqrHOTaw/edit#
They hate sex workers but love nazis? Something wrong with that equation.....
Agreed!

What a lovely way to commemorate the last night of Chanukah!

Thank you for posting! I actually haven't seen anywhere else (that's on me!) so I'm grateful for the share!

Thanks for posting this. I pay for two substacks: this one and Rusty's. So I'm in good company.
Honored to be on that list
here are a couple of suggestions:

If you don't like Substack, leave. Go to your platforms.
Did substack leadership ever reply?
I could be wrong, but my understanding is that this was the most recent substantive response from Substack.https://www.platformer.news/substack-says-it-will-remove-nazi/
