I was Taylor Branch's research assistant on volume 2 of his trilogy! It was before the days when you could do everything online, and boy did I spend a lot of time in libraries up & down the East Coast photocopying things. I also transcribed all of his interviews. I haven't seen him in years (and I've always been kinda curious why he has written so little since the 2006 release of #3), but he was a genuinely cool guy and it was a privilege to work for him.
Wait really Sue??? Holy cow! And I'm glad to hear that he wasn't a jerk to work with. I'm not on Volume Two yet (I probably should have been honest above with the fact that no, I have not conquered all 922 pages of book one lol) but when I get to it I'll be super excited to know that your work went into it!
Amazing that Harry Dean Stanton made this flick right after his magnificent turn in Repo Man (1984).
I hope you'll also address the atrocity that Andi made of two perfectly nice prom dresses: one of them a glorious mid-century vintage that was tacitly on loan!
Hahahaha I have an amazing guest writer lined up for Pretty in Pink who is going to be playing with a ton of interesting themes (like you say, it's particularly interesting in the Hughes canon even) but I will make sure I pass on this important note about the prom dress atrocity :).
Oh I love Fair State Coop beer, and so now I'm super curious about this Hop Water. I love my beer with all the hops, but having an option that water but I'd think was like having a beer?? I'm skeptical but again, curious...

My name appears on pg. 613 of PILLAR OF FIRE, so you can look for it in the acknowledgments when you have finished the book!
A treat for finishing the book!!
Well I'll sure be here for Pretty in Pink! In many ways, the outlier of the Hughes canon. I'm currently on the pre-publishing waitlist for this in paperback: https://www.kentuckypress.com/9780813180106/harry-dean-stanton/.

Definitely worth a try!
