Needed this this morning. Feelings of powerlessness are also, I am seeing, tools of the oppressors

That's the thing about messed up systems... they're best fuel is all of us feeling like there's nothing we can do about it.

Thank you! One need only look at happened in the Pennsylvania State Legislature this week, or at the opening prayer of Montana’s State legislative session (in which “election fraud” and a prayer for Donald Trump to remain president were articulated) to see we all have plenty of work to do right where we are. Those people who invaded the Capitol building came from communities like ours.

This was a bias and inflammatory piece. We should come together and blaming the beliefs of one or the other is not the answer , empathy is. The people that broke into the capital building should be arrested. I think we should also wait and see who all is responsible for the rioting and how it was so easy for them to get in to the capital building. All rioters should be held responsible for the destruction and terror they have caused in our Country.

Hey Hans, I agree that our world could use more empathy. But what did you find particularly biased and imflammatory about this piece? I'm curious because I find it to be very honest and I didn't read it as inflammatory at all but I would like to hear your perspective. Would you be willing to expand on that? And what do you mean by "blaming the beliefs of one another"? If someone believes in white supremacy and is willing to cause destruction because of it, do you feel that is fair to call out and speak against? If not, why not? Thanks.

You are a writer your work involves writing articles writing, possibly speeches people that do your kind of work ,possibly write legislation and you have empathy for those people. I think you understand 9 to 5 in an office space that is warm with lots of people around. You insinuate that I am prejudice. Some of my experiences have been in Bush Alaska where I was a minority and people were prejudiced against me .The work I did and the way I treated people changed their mind.I work in construction using my brain and my muscle and at the end of the day I am physically and mentally tired. My freezer gets full by fishing and hunting and taking care of our harvest. The house that I am in was constructed by me in my spare time through more than 20 years of effort. Seems to me I am in a minority and I don’t see any empathy for me in the news or articles I read. Seems to me that the people down in the lower 48 where the higher population is try to take away my guns and the way that I fill the freezer with no regard for my feelings, is there no empathy for this hard-working white guy .I am trying hard not to take anything from anyone, just trying to make my own way and help people out if I can. 69 years young and still working some. Many many times the choice was to stay home or make some thing that would work ,instead of going out and spending money. Even though President Trump had a life that was nothing like mine he seem to have some empathy for me. President Trump did many things I didn’t agree with and maybe Joe will pull through for all of us and make all of us feel like we are all one big family again
